MAYAR

On Wednesday, 16^th of April, the student taking course in Academic Writing has the chance to watch three films. One of the film in which I thought the most interesting is the humorous Mayar created by Fourcolour film. Mayar tells a story about a young woman working in a big city and her hometown, a village in D.I. Yogyakarta.

The story starts in Jakarta Selatan where Mayar works. Mayar itself is a character in the movie whose name means easy. While waiting at the station in Jakarta, Mayar narrated that she has lost her suitcase due to being stolen and therefore she was using a guitar suitcase borrowed from her master. When she arrives home, her mother asked why her clothes look so unfamiliar and odd, Mayar answered by giving statement that if she wears nice clothes thieves will be more aware and thus putting a danger to herself because Jakarta is no longer safe.

Upon her arrival at D.I. Yogyakarta, there are two men who were interested to Mayar. Firstly is Agus who is very polite, brave, and will stand for what he deserves. On the other hand, Senthot does not have a good personality. Furthermore Senthot is quite a bully to Agus. This is because Agus is from the “Cabe” party and campaigning his party while Senthot is from the “Pete” party. As a result, Senthot will opposition himself with Agus. In the movie, Senthot will release the poster which Agus has placed although Agus has a very good reason to place it where he wants.

Both Agus and Senthot has an interest to Mayar but they both approach her in two very opposite ways. While Agus seduce Mayar with his politeness, bravery, and his act to stand to what he deserves, Senthot is using force to Mayar in order to get her attention. In the end, Agus is more attractive to Mayar than Senthot. As a result Agus is dating Mayar and taking her back to her workplace at Jakarta.

This movie is interesting to me because it is filled with humorous scenes, great moral, and a sense of what is happening in Indonesia right now although the acting could have been better. Not only that, if a person analyzes the movie deeply and thoroughly, there are many hidden things in which making the movie much more interesting than the other two.
